Half-term is a blessing: I had forgotten how enjoyable everything is with time on my hands (and you in my arms): dancing Monday evening, gardening and a cycling for an hour among the vineyards in the afternoon, a good film and a meal out yesterday, breakfast in bedand the prospect of a healthy, robust political discussion tonight at the platform meeting. This is the life.
I think I am even ready for a little housework this morning (with the iPod and Patrice, of course).

The promised kiss of springtime

Half-term break: the right time to catch up on all the chores and tasks, paperwork and other boring stuff; why oh why has the weather turned bright and inviting? The chores will wait: I have spent the better part of the afternoon in the garden, bringing to light the shoots of spring bulbs that were still covered in fallen leaves ( that's how bad a gardener I am, not raking up all the dead leaves as soon as they fall). It is always so moving to find curled up tendrils of anemones drawing greeny-yellow arabesques on the ground, and the pointed little mauve tongues of botanical tulips peeking out in between the fat, glossy clusters of hyacinths. Hope it won't start freezing now that they're out.

And while waiting for a better world to be won by our struggles, I finished my red scarf (the colour is well suited to my mood): here is the fire queen, if you look closely, you might just catch the little glass beads knitted into the edges and here and there.

Progress report
The other WIP, a beaded scarf called "fire queen" after the beautiful "ice queen" that everybody seems to be knitting, is also coming on nicely, and I hope I can show off a photo of the finished object soon. My ravelry account has emerged from the dormant stage, and I have experienced the temptations of the community. A few hours have been spent foolishly, confess, checking out projects that I'll never have time to even consider starting.

WIP ensoleillé
Here comes another week-end of heavy marking, so I am pleased to have the vibrant colours of a new project to bring me comfort when I get tired of crossing out "to"s after "I can"s and decorating margins with endless red arabesques of question-marks, or understated little comments of "this is not clear".
Hopefully, the multicoloured collar should grow into a lovely jacket from Fitted Knits in Noro Iro. As you can see from the photo we had bright summery weather today, which makes it even more difficult to stay in poring over those !!?§@!! papers.

Even though maths teachers are not necessarily kindred spirits to me, François a) no longer teaches, so that's all right b) does, and has always done lots of interesting things besides teaching, so I'm looking forward to following his long ride to China, starting next month and reaching Beijing for the Olympics.

not a finished object

Is Christmas over? I came across this extraordinary knitter's extravaganza on David Demchuk's blog. Well ElectroLuminescent yarn isn't really meant to be made into pretty lace shawls or socks, and I am still undecided whether it would be fun or just horrible. If I knew how to and if there were more than one visitor per day on this blog, I would include one of those mini polls.
But I still have lots of marking to do for tomorrow, so I'll just forget about it for the time being.

After completing the "magic mushroom beret" as it is called by my family, I decided to take a break to test the limits of my addiction to the stuff. A week later I am getting unbearably itchy fingers, so it's back to the needles.
